Mid-morning on the Little Ossipee River

Hi--first time out with my fly rod ---ever. went out to the the Little Osspee river to give it a go; I realize that it isn't "the season" for fly fishing for trout, but I was more interested in getting out on the river and just trying things out.
I accessed the river off of Route 11 in Newfield (near the Vernon S.Walker WMA), got my feet wet around 9 am, started with a gold beaded black nymph and had a ball catching all kinds of ---chub. I was hopeful for a brookie or brown trout to come around but it wasn't meant to be.
I quit when the sun got high and hot and even the chub seemed to need a siesta.
Overall, it was a great time. Even tho I'm a beginner, I found many areas to fish with out too many snags on trees, fishing with the beaded nymph did cause snagging on branches under water. Will definitely go back, maybe access the river off of Clark's Bridge road next time, try to find deeper pools where some trout may be holding up.
