If you had to choose a once in a lifetime Atlantic Salmon trip which one?

A) Grande Cascapedia, Petite Cascapedia and Bonaventure

B) Restigouche

C) SW Miramichi, NW Miramichi, Little SW Miramichi and Cains

Most fish, big fish and best chance at catching, best time of the year to go for fresh fish, not asking too much am I?

I know we have alot of guys on here from Canada who fish some of these rivers, or maybe it's a river you haven't gone to yet but someday you too would like to try.

Just kicking tires right now, so any help most appreciated thanks all.

1.   Ponoi River, Russia

2.   Eagle River, Labrador

3.   George River, Quebec

If I had to pick from anywhere.

Since I'm a native NB'er and I've already fished most of the rivers in the Miramichi system either in the spring or summer, I'd probably pick the Restigouche because there is no and I say again no Crown open water on that river  so if your fishing there you are on a Crown Reserve or on private or leased water so the fishing pressure is tightly restricted.  I think that it might be open below the Matapedia where the river is a mile wide and tidal.

Hey, a guy can dream can't he?    Now when does that run show up on the Ponoi.

Ah the Eagle isn't there a road across it now we could drive right there. No idea when the fresh fish show up there, July/August should be a good guess. Pretty sure that February  would be a little early.  Why aren't we planning a fishing clave somewhere?

Hi Caddisfly4

Not being sure of exactly the style that you want to fish in, I can only make 2 suggestions.

If you can afford to go in style, I would suggest the Grande Cascapedia starting in late

June or early July.

if you are budget consious, then I would suggest the Miramichi system. Outfitters there are also pricey.

So, I would reccommend that for there you should tap into acquaintances that hold a guides  licence

and can make a corned beef sandwich.  July is a good month although things slow towards the end.

Much of my salmon fishing has been done "roughing it".. But now my idea of roughing it is at the very

minimum a Best Western.Big Grin

Hi Stephen:

Where have you been? No action on your site.

Don't think I will be back for spring fishing.

Am here in Florida, playing golf and waiting for it to warm up so I can get into some. fish.

Looking forward to getting out together next summer.

Caddis

My only recommondation is to try the Miramichi system.  I have fished it several times in the spring and the fishing is great, they are black salmon but they do give a good account for them selves and nothing wrong fishing for these fish.  Also you will most deffinently get more action.  Summer or fall fishing I have only done once and did hook one nice fish and lost another.  The action is slower but if you do hook up to a bright fish the race is on.  I know others that have done the Restigouche in the spring and it is also great fishing and I have hurd that on average the fish are bigger.  But I must admit that I have hooked into one fish around 48 inches in the Miramichi so they can get big there as well.  Let us all know what you come up with and I will help all I can.

Thanks

Lee

Thanks for the responses guys I see I have some thinking to do before I make the move. Just got back from steelie fishing in NY. Weather in low 40's .  One tug on the first day and eight solid hookups on the second with only two landed. Love that 2 Hander.

Nice fish Bill, what does a fish that size weigh, looks like about 6 to 7 lbs.  Edit your post and you will see how to make the picture show up on the post, its easy, give it a try.

Thanks

Lee
